OPEN INSTITUTES

We often run Open Institutes.  This past summer two were held at the Muskegon Area ISD and Kent Area ISD.

These Open Institutes are shorter versions of the core activities of all National Writing Project professional Insitutes:

  • Teachers will strengthen their own skills as writers as well as reflect on their experiences as writers
  • Teachers will develop skills as responders to writers
  • Teachers will study best practice in teaching writing texts
  • Teachers will experience best practice in presentations by LMWP teacher consultants.

All teachers in these districts are welcome to contact their ISDs for registration.

 SUMMER INVITATIONAL INSTITUTE

At the heart of the LMWP is the Summer Invitational Institute: a four-week program inviting teachers from all disciplines and levels to engage in collaboration. The institute will meet at Grand Valley's Pew Campus in downtown Grand Rapids. Week one consists of intensive community building and significant reading and writing time.
