The Lake Michigan Writing Project (LMWP) is West Michigan's affiliate of the National Writing Project, an authorized professional development provider for NCLB, under Title II, Part C, Subpart 2, included in the catalog of reform models for comprehensive school reform.
We are an organization of teachers, for teachers, dedicated to the improvement of writing across the disciplines at all age levels.
Alliance for Excellent Education Calls for Increased Funding for NWP
The Alliance for Excellent Education recently issued a policy brief offering suggestions to help improve writing instruction in America, including a call to increase federal support for the National Writing Project.

Year 3 of Research Initiative Continues to Show Impact of NWP Programs
Sites that participate in the Local Site Research Initiative are not only developing their capacity to conduct research, they are also using the information they gather to improve or expand their own programs, and contributing to the body of evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of NWP.

Americans Believe Writing Skills Are More Important Than Ever
A new survey reports that Americans believe good writing skills are more important than ever, but they fear that our schools and our children are falling behind. Two-thirds of the public would like to see more resources invested in helping teachers teach writing.
