May Flowers PDF Print E-mail
For me, the saying “April showers bring May flowers,” is reflective of my school year.  All year, I try to “shower” my students with opportunities to grow as learners and individuals through reading and writing.  Usually, in May, I begin to see the blossoming in my students.  Just this week, I really began to notice classroom conversations gaining depth and writing becoming more fluent and purposeful.  I can look back on my year proud of myself and my students and the work we’ve done together, especially in my area of teacher research, literature circles and reading.  I invite you to post about the growth of your students and the moments that have made you proud this year.

May is also the month to squeeze in that last little bit of learning.  We teachers know we only have about six more weeks left to help our students reach their potential.  I invite you to post about your final efforts.  What are you going to do to expand student learning in these crucial weeks?

Finally, May is a time of planning.  You may be planning a family vacation, a conference, or getting a house project finished.  This summer, I am trying to strike a balance between reinvigorating my soul as well as learning and researching.  Therefore, I plan to write this summer.  I invite LMWP teacher consultants to join TCs at the LMWP’s first Advanced Institute, scheduled for June 22-25.  The theme of this year’s Advanced Institute, run by Eric Tower and Roy Black, will be Teachers as Writers.  Please join us and honor yourself as a writer while reconnecting with our community of dedicated professionals.

Peace and LMWP Luv,

Heather Brewer
